GO VERTICAL SUMMARY | ||||
GO VERTICAL is GTD's rock climbing & rappelling adventure. GTD has put together an adrenaline pumping vertically thrilling event that will amaze your heart and revive your soul!
Our climbing destination this year is to Cornelia, GA. We will spend two full days climbing & rappelling on beautiful Mt. Currahee - only minutes from our base camp. This location has two excellent slabs, one for beginner to intermediate climbing, and the other a perfect vertical drop for rappelling.
In our time together you will not only get an opportunity to ascend & descend 7 stories of rock face, but you will also learn the basics in climbing & belaying skills that make up the essentials in top rope climbing.
GO VERTICAL not only refers to our high adventure activities, but also refers to our vertical relationship with God as we seek Him first throughout our journey. We will explore God's majesty through daily devotions, praise & worship, and nightly impact points. This trip has the potential to change your life as you conquer new heights, grow closer to God, and make new friends! |

ROCK CLIMBING & RAPPELLING INFO
What is rappelling?
What is top-rope climbing?
RAPPELLING: It can be absolutely invigorating (understatement) as you descend from a height by sliding down a rope. Rappelling is not a lot of work (because gravity takes care of the hard part). Rappelling is a quick way to descend a rock face by relying 100% on your equipment: harness, helmet, gloves, belay device, gear, anchors, and rope.
TOP ROPING: Top-rope climbing is all about having fun and being as safe as possible. Top-roping offers the rock climbing experience with all the rewards but minimal risks. Top-roping, simply put, is climbing a rock face with the rope always anchored above you. If you fall, you usually only fall a few feet until the rope catches you, minimizing the risk of injury. Top-roping is the safest form of climbing, but like all rock climbing it has inherent dangers and there is always the potential for accident, injury, and death.
CLIMBING TYPE: Top Roping
RAPPELLING TYPE: Traditional w/ Figure 8's HEIGHT: 6-7 Stories (60-70 feet)
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Beginner to Intermediate
