NOMAD SUMMARY

NOMAD is GTD's exciting Backpacking Adventure. Now days it's a rare opportunity to escape all of the busyness of life and enjoy the serenity that is found in God's majestic creation. Yet, it is something that we all long for. NOMAD is your ticket to God's untamed amusement park called the wilderness. NOMAD is a Jesus centered backpacking trek to the Appalachian Mountains. At times the terrain will be rough with steep inclines, declines, and river crossings. Along the trail we will encounter some beautiful mountain views, some stunning plant life, and the possible sightings of wildlife. This is both an adventurous and challenging hike. Once we leave the parking lot we will be in the wild for nearly 3 days. This is a primitive trip so there are no amenities beyond what you carry in your backpack. Each morning we will jump start the day with some powerful devos and each night we will be jolted to life with a challenging Biblical message. God will impact your life in an unbelievable way. So come join GTD on this outrageous backpacking fad we call NOMAD!

- BACKPACKING FOOD -
Bring enough food for 8 meals & snacks. Food should be light weight & waterproof. Seal it in zip-lock bags. Camp stoves, utensils, mess kits, and cooking pots will be supplied by GTD.

We will stop approx 3-4 times along the ride up & back to eat at restaurants. Restaurant Examples = Cracker Barrel, Sonny's, Wendy's

EXAMPLES OF BACKPACKING FOOD

You will find some great selections of foods at any grocery store. Many food manufacturers offer a good selection of meats in vacuum sealed bags such as chicken, ham, salmon, etc. Try not to bring canned foods since it weighs so much and you will have to pack out the can/trash. We won't be burning our trash - it will be packed out and thrown away at the end of the hike. Chicken with instant mashed potatoes & instant gravy is one of my favorite meals. Peperoni, cheese, & tortillas is another good meal. Least expensive food = Ramen noodles (17 cents per bag).

EXAMPLES: Ramen noodles, Lipton pasta packets, Ragu 6-pack of spaghetti w/sauce, granola/breakfast bars, vacuum sealed foods (such as chicken, salmon, tuna fish, ham), oatmeal, instant potatoes, peanut butter/crackers, jelly packets, trail mix/nuts, pepperoni, sealed cheese, tortilla, mayo/mustard packets, dried soups/fruits, etc. NO MAC & CHEESE (the cheese burns to our backpacking pots).

ABOUT  THE  WATER

We will be getting our drinking water from the mountain streams and purifying it with drops of bleach. Make sure you bring at least 2 water bottles or a hydration pack.
